Simple Overclock for GTX1070 Mining Eth

With the popularity and the price of Ethereum shooting up with a small dip in Bitcoin it has raised alot more attention from alot of people. Mining Eth can be quite complicated getting setup and using a GTX1070 it can be an issue trying to get the most from your GPU

There are two simple ways we can make the most from our 1070, the first is the most basic simple way for majority of people who know nothing about overclocking. Be aware overclocking CAN cause damage to your card so this is your responsibility.


The first program we are going to use is Nvidia Inspector which is available from Guru.3D

The program is very simple to use, simply click the bottom right to show overclocking and select performance P0 and apply clocks. This should normally take you up in speed by a couple of MH/s if you do not know what you are doing do not touch any of the sliders on the right hand side

Secondly if you are comfortable with overclocking your card then this is probably the best way to do it manually through MSi Afterburner. As always this comes with greater risks as there is greater chance of messing something up and damaging your card. You can download Msi afterburner here

If you are trying to find the limit of your card for the P0 status then it may be worth finding the max clocks via this method.

The nvidia-smi utility is part of the video drivers and you can find it installed in the folder “C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVSMI\” on Windows, so you need to run the command line (cmd) and navigate to that folder in order to be able to issue commands. What you should start with is running the following command to check the current P-state of your GPU(s): nvidia-smi -q -d PERFORMANCE

The above will give you an idea of what power state the card is running in, but ideally for a quick overclock we want to find out the max clocks that card is capable of running in P0 mode. So again running cmd mode simply run the command:

nvidia-smi -q -d CLOCK

This should show you the max clocks for memory and for the GPU clock, now you know what to easily overclock to in MSi Afterburner to achieve a safe overclock and P0 mode. Again this is all at your own risk if you do not know what you are doing do not do it
